Michael Artner: «In Everything we Do, we First Ask ourselves. Is it Good for the Guest?»

In the section Backstage, interesting personalities from the financial sector and beyond provide insights into their personal preferences every Wednesday.

What do you do first in the morning?

As soon as I arrive at the hotel, I do a walkthrough of the property. I get an overview, check the details, and take in the atmosphere — for me, that is the best possible start to the day.

What is the best part of your job?

Being a host, wholeheartedly and by conviction. Living genuine hospitality fulfills me every single day. I especially value the exchange with people — and the fact that you are constantly learning and creating unique experiences together with the team.

A moment that changed your life?

The birth of my two children. The most beautiful life-changing experience one could imagine.

What cars do you own? Which is your favorite?

I drive a C63 AMG from our cooperation partner Mercedes. The brand stands for quality, performance, and style — values I strongly identify with.

What are you particularly proud of?

That I am where I am today — and above all, of my team, with whom I have shared this journey. We all see ourselves as hosts, and only together can we truly inspire our guests. Behind every experience stands a strong employee — in our case, around 400 hosts who give their very best every day.

What do you do when you have doubts?

I do not doubt — or at least I try not to. (laughs)

What is your favorite wine?

I am a great fan of Bordeaux wines. But I also greatly enjoy the regions around Barolo and Montalcino.

Which projects are you currently working on?

On the start of the season. With the beginning of the golf season, our resort awakens into an unparalleled retreat in nature. The transition from winter to summer is never the same from year to year and requires a high degree of attention — and not only on the golf courses.

What do you admire in other people?

Exceptional talent. I am particularly fascinated by musical ability — when someone masters something with true excellence.

What would be the biggest surprise for someone who had to take over your job for a day?

The intensity of our passion for delighting guests and how much thought our hosts put into inspiring every guest in an individual way. In everything we do, we first ask ourselves: Is it good for the guest?

What is your personal drive?

Being a hotelier by conviction — with heart, passion, and integrity.

What are you afraid of?

I am not afraid. I have respect for many things. Fear paralyses; respect prepares you.

Your favorite watch brand?

I have a strong preference for Swiss watch brands.

Is there an unfulfilled dream you would still like to realize?

A road trip through Canada with my family. It has been on my bucket list for quite some time.
