Canton Number 7 Joins the Swiss Blockchain Federation
Lucerne is becoming the seventh canton to join the Swiss Blockchain Federation (SBF). The association, which campaigns for the best possible framework conditions for Switzerland’s blockchain sector and, by extension, the crypto industry, announced the move on Wednesday. The SBF has around 100 members.
According to the statement, the canton of Lucerne ranks among the ten most active blockchain regions in Switzerland. Based on the CV VC Crypto Top 50 Report, the canton is home to 73 active blockchain companies, with a particular focus on consulting and advisory services.
Economy, Education and Research
Lucerne’s strength lies in the combination of a diversified economic base and its proximity to educational and research institutions such as the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the University of Lucerne. The initiative to join the federation emerged from regular exchanges between business representatives, public authorities and stakeholders within the regional blockchain ecosystem.
Fabian Peter, the member of the cantonal government responsible for economic affairs, said: «Lucerne has excellent conditions to successfully connect digital innovation with the real economy. Membership in the Swiss Blockchain Federation strengthens our network and creates additional opportunities for companies, talent and investment.»
«Further Deepening Cooperation»
Heinz Tännler, President of the SBF as well as long-serving member of the Zug cantonal government and Finance Director, commented: «As the seventh member canton — following Ticino, Zurich, Zug, Neuchâtel, Geneva and Bern — Lucerne strengthens our voice. Together, we can advocate even more effectively for internationally competitive framework conditions, further deepen cooperation between industry, politics, public administration and academia, and position Switzerland as one of the world’s leading blockchain hubs.»
Bern and Geneva joined the SBF in 2025.
