J.P. Morgan has appointed Burkhard Koep, who is based in Geneva, as Global Head of Communications Investment Banking. In this role, Koep will further expand the firm’s Media & Communications (M&C) investment banking platform.

Over the past seven years, Koep has led J.P. Morgan’s EMEA M&C investment banking team «with outstanding success, developing talent and significantly advancing the strategic dialogue with our most important clients,» according to an internal memo seen by finews. Before joining the bank in 2019, he spent five years in various senior roles at the Altice Group. Prior to that, he worked for 16 years at Morgan Stanley in M&C investment banking.

Koep will remain based in Switzerland and continue to report to Eric Menell, the bank’s Global Head of Media & Communications Investment Banking.

Succeeding Koep, Gian Piero Sammartano will assume leadership of EMEA M&C Investment Banking while retaining his current role as Global Co-Head of Sports Investment Banking. Sammartano will also continue to report to Eric Menell.
