Election Confirmed: André Helfenstein Becomes New SIX Chairman
The Board of Directors of SIX has appointed André Helfenstein as its new Chairman, effective 1 January 2026. He will succeed Thomas Wellauer, who had previously announced that he would not stand for re-election at the 2026 Annual General Meeting.
Helfenstein’s appointment had already been reported in recent days; finews.ch covered the development.
Board Member Since 2020
Helfenstein has been a member of the SIX Board of Directors since 2020 and brings extensive national and international experience in the banking and financial industry. Before joining SIX, he served as CEO of Credit Suisse (Switzerland) AG from 2020 to 2024; prior to that, he spent more than a decade as a Partner and Managing Director at the Boston Consulting Group.
Thomas Wellauer described the collaboration as a formative period marked by numerous political and economic challenges, and extended his congratulations to Helfenstein. «It has been a privilege to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIX and to contribute to the company’s development and growth – during a time of significant political and economic challenges and change,» he said.
Wellauer will remain on the Board of Directors until the next Annual General Meeting on 6 May 2026 to ensure an orderly transition.
Further Strengthening Infrastructure and Services
André Helfenstein emphasized that he greatly appreciates the Board’s confidence and intends to focus on stability, innovation, and customer value. Under his leadership, SIX aims to further strengthen its infrastructure and services for the Swiss and international financial markets: «SIX makes a central contribution to the competitiveness of the Swiss financial centre. Together with the Board of Directors and the Executive Board, I will focus on driving the successful ongoing development of SIX, continuously strengthening our services and infrastructure, and providing clear added value to our customers and shareholders.»
