Three Men Join the SIX Board of Directors
At Wednesday’s ABV meeting of SIX – the company’s official term for its general meeting, with ABV standing for shareholder agreement – shareholders elected three new members to the Board of Directors for the next three years. According to a statement issued by the financial market infrastructure operator, the new members are Pascal Baumgartner, Pieter Brouwer and Gaspare La Sala. They replace Thomas Wellauer, Belén Romana García, Roger Reist and Sven Holstenson, who are stepping down from the board at the end of their terms.
Notably, SIX’s executive board has undergone several changes – not always entirely smooth – since CEO Bjørn Sibbern took office in January 2025.
Announced and Unannounced Departures and Appointments
Wellauer had already announced a year ago that he would not seek re-election at the 2026 general meeting. However, he had already handed over his role as Chairman of the SIX Board of Directors to André Helfenstein at the beginning of 2026. In March 2026, it became known that Reist, who had been on the board since 2023, would also not stand for re-election. The departures of García – who had joined the board following SIX’s acquisition of the Spanish stock exchange BME – and Holstenson, who had served since 2023, had not been announced in advance.
The names of the three candidates had likewise not been disclosed beforehand.
Entris, UBS and Pictet
Baumgartner has served as CEO of Entris Holding and Entris Banking since 2022. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Valiant Bank as General Counsel and Head of Legal and Compliance, and also held various positions at the Swiss Bankers Association, Swiss Post and UBS.
Brouwer has been Chief Operating Officer of UBS Personal & Corporate Banking and UBS Switzerland since 2026. According to the statement, he brings many years of experience in technology and operations and has held various management roles at UBS since 2017. Earlier in his career, he worked for Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and KPMG.
La Sala has been an Equity Partner at Banque Pictet & Cie and CEO of Pictet Trading and Sales since 2020. He has extensive experience in trading, treasury and investment banking, and previously held senior positions at both Pictet and UBS.
«Greater Breadth, Expertise and Perspective»
Commenting on the appointments, Chairman André Helfenstein said: «With the addition of these proven experts to the SIX Board of Directors, our corporate leadership gains further breadth, expertise and perspective.»
The remaining members of the SIX Board of Directors – alongside Helfenstein, Søren Mose, Jürg Bühlmann, David Jiménez-Blanco Carrillo de Albornoz, Andy Kollegger and Andreas Utermann – were re-elected. The board therefore continues to consist entirely of men, with nine male members in total, although one seat remains vacant.
