Ex-Banker Overtakes Coop & Migros with High-Speed Deliveries
As soon as a customer places an order, it is processed at the logistics center in Schlieren and picked within a maximum of eight minutes. The computer system then assigns the order to one of the twelve delivery drivers and plans the routes based on the customers' addresses. Thanks to this coordinated organization, deliveries within the Zurich region, even as far as the Gold Coast, can be made within one hour.
In addition to fast delivery times, Alfies focuses on sustainability. The entire vehicle fleet consists of electric vehicles to reduce emissions. A reusable container system is also in place, allowing customers to return their containers for a refund.
Diverse Product Range
Alfies' product range includes both household goods and fresh food and beverages. Particularly popular items include fruit, vegetables, bread, and frozen products. Among fresh produce, bananas, avocados, and cucumbers are among the most frequently ordered items. Co-founder Gunther Michl, a former banker, told finews.com, «We started with 4'000 products and expand our range weekly. Our goal is to grow to 6'000 products.»
Before founding Alfies, Michl spent five years in M&A advisory at Erste Group in Vienna – most recently as Vice President.

Evening Deliveries Available
After Vienna and Graz, Zurich is the third location for Alfies. The option to order from Monday to Saturday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. is intended to meet the needs of an increasingly digitally oriented customer base. Delivery is free for orders over 59 francs.
Alfies’ business model demonstrates how modern logistics processes can be used to ensure both efficiency and sustainability. According to the company, a geographic expansion of services is planned.
