Helvetia Baloise Pulls Risk Manager Out of the Hat
The insurance group Helvetia has filled a key position: Karina Schreiber will take over responsibility for risk management as of October 1 and will become a member of the Group Executive Board, the company announced on Tuesday.
The PhD mathematician holds a Master’s degree in Mathematical Finance from the University of Oxford and previously worked at Helvetia from 2006 to 2007 – as an Actuarial Risk Analyst in reinsurance. She then held positions at Deloitte and KPMG before joining the Allianz Group in 2012, where she was promoted to Group Chief Actuary at Allianz SE in 2023.
Predecessor Moved to Swiss Re
The position had been vacant since Bernhard Kaufmann announced his departure in April. He had only taken over the role in November 2024 (as reported by finews.com) but left shortly thereafter in connection with the planned merger of Helvetia and Baloise to join the reinsurance company Swiss Re.
Observers interpreted the move as a sign that Kaufmann did not see a future for himself in the merged company.
New Role in the Merged Executive Board
It is now clear: Schreiber is to assume the role of Group Chief Risk Officer in the new structure of Helvetia Baloise as well. Following the completion of the merger, she will also be part of the Group Executive Board – even though this role was not originally included in the leadership team presented during the merger announcement.
The previously announced composition of the Group Executive Board of the merged company is: Helvetia CEO Fabian Rupprecht as CEO, Baloise CEO Michael Müller as Deputy CEO and Head of Integration, Matthias Henny (CFO), and André Keller (CIO).
