Radicant Drags Down BLKB’s Operating Profit
BLKB reported a 4,4 percent rise in consolidated operating income to 239 million francs, with growth across all customer segments. But operating profit declined to 49,4 million francs from 89,8 million francs a year earlier, due to the goodwill write-down triggered by Radicant’s strategic repositioning. Without this one-off effect, profit would have reached 94,4 million francs.
Despite the hit, the group net profit rose to 91,6 million francs—up from 67,1 million francs—after the release of 50 million francs in reserves. CEO John Häfelfinger, who recently announced his departure, emphasized BLKB remains «operationally on track and within strategic expectations.»
Lending increased by 166,9 million francs to 26,4 billion francs, with mortgage growth at a cautious 0,9 percent. Interest income slipped slightly by 0,5 percent to 168,2 million francs, while commission income rose 5 percent to 47,1 million francs. Assets under management grew to 819 million francs, and trading income jumped 19 percent to 15,4 million francs.
Looking ahead, BLKB expects 2025 results to match last year’s and plans to maintain distributions to both certificate holders and the canton. The bank anticipates a return to a low or even negative interest rate environment amid continued economic uncertainty.
