UBS has participated in a funding round for the UK-based company Icon Solutions. According to a press release issued Thursday, the fintech supports banks worldwide in developing and implementing cutting-edge payment systems.

In addition to UBS, existing investors Citi and NatWest also took part in the funding round. No further details were provided regarding the amount invested or the size of the stakes.

Innovative Infrastructure Solutions

«Icon is an important partner of UBS and plays a key role in modernizing payment platforms through innovative infrastructure solutions,» said Pieter Brouwer, Head of Group Operations and Technology Office (GOTO) at UBS, as quoted in the release. «This investment strengthens our partnership with Icon and underscores our commitment to providing our clients with faster and future-ready payment solutions.»

The collaboration will help UBS drive innovation and improve performance in instant payments and advanced transaction processing.

UBS, together with existing investors Citi and NatWest, will help shape the strategic direction and ongoing development of the Icon Payments Framework (IPF). The banks use IPF to accelerate their respective payment modernization programs and deliver greater value to their clients.

Banks Retain Full Control Over Development

«This funding round further validates our core belief that banks should be empowered to transform their payments operations themselves,» said Icon Solutions co-founder and CEO Tom Kelleher.

The IPF has now proven itself internationally and is increasingly being adopted by major financial institutions. It is a development framework for payments that equips banks with the technology and processes to independently transform their payments infrastructure. This enables payment processing solutions to be developed, tested, and deployed much more rapidly—while banks retain full control over timelines and costs.
