Raid at EFG in Luxembourg

The premises of EFG Bank Luxembourg were searched last Tuesday. The investigation by the judicial authorities of the Grand Duchy concerns a preliminary inquiry that was launched in 2025 on suspicion of money laundering and breaches of obligations in the fight against terrorist financing, as reported by the news portal «Paperjam.lu».

According to the article, the subsidiary of the Swiss bank is being investigated for a lack of vigilance regarding clients, deficiencies in its internal organisation and breaches of its obligations to cooperate with the competent authorities. A spokesperson also confirmed this to the newspaper «L’essentiel».

The search was reportedly carried out by 24 police officers from the anti-money laundering unit and the «new technologies» section, as well as two members of the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office. As part of the ongoing investigation, the authorities conducted search and seizure measures.

The investigation is ongoing and the presumption of innocence applies.

The Luxembourg subsidiary of the Swiss group EFG International is primarily active in wealth management and services for high-net-worth and institutional clients. As a banking institution at the Luxembourg financial centre, it also conducts cross-border activities within the European Union.

EFG confirms that on 24 February 2026 local authorities were on site in the offices in Luxembourg. The bank writes: «We are fully cooperating with the authorities in this preliminary investigation. EFG is committed to maintaining a robust and effective risk and compliance framework and to fully comply with all applicable laws and regulations.»
