Christian Basler, a managing director at the private bank Bergos, has left the firm to become a train driver for the SBB.

Basler, who had been with the bank since 2021, left in April to begin training for his new career in Altstetten. «It was time for a change,» Basler told finews.ch. After 31 years, the successful executive found himself at a vocational crossroads and decided the financial industry wasn’t for him anymore.

At Bergos, Basler’s work was centered around supporting international customers. He focused largely on the firm's support of shipping customers. Bergos has a historical client focus on shipping and shipowners. In 2018, the company spun off from the German private bank Berenberg, which is traditionally strongly anchored in the shipping industry and has its headquarters in Hamburg.

In a former capacity, Basler spent three years as a director for Credit Suisse, where he was a team leader for Greece and Cyprus in Zurich. He spent the previous 11 years working for UBS, holding titles such as relationship manager, executive director, and head active advisory EM.
