Crypto Valley Makes Its Mark Once Again

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the 10th edition of the CV VC Top 50 Report was unveiled. The report highlights Crypto Valley Zug's global impact on the blockchain industry, ranking the top 50 blockchain companies by token market capitalization and private valuations.

Here are the key findings:

1. Higher Overall Valuation

The combined valuation of the top 50 companies in Crypto Valley surged by 55% to $593 billion. Sixteen of the 25 leading blockchain platforms are headquartered in Zug, accounting for 97% of the total valuation at $584.33 billion. Zug is home to 14 of the top 25 blockchain companies, which represent 56% of the total valuation.

2. A Rising Number of Unicorns

The number of unicorns (companies valued at over $1 billion) began to rise in 2023, and this trend continued last year. Today, Crypto Valley is home to 17 unicorns—14 based on token market capitalization and 3 on private valuations. The latest addition is Sygnum, the world’s first digital asset bank.

3. Increased Financing Activity

In 2024, Crypto Valley secured $586 million across 56 deals, marking an 8% increase compared to the previous year. By contrast, global blockchain financing grew by only 3%. Crypto Valley’s share of global blockchain financing climbed by 5.2%, with the average deal size rising 70% year-on-year to $5.6 million—well above the global median of $4 million.

The region accounted for 29.1% of European blockchain financing in 2024, an 18.7% increase from 2023.

4. Zug Maintains Leadership

Zug remains Switzerland’s crypto powerhouse, hosting 42% of all blockchain financing in the country ($245.89 million). Zurich follows with 34.7% ($203.33 million), while Liechtenstein accounts for 17.1% of transactions. Emerging regions include Geneva and Vaud.

Ongoing Challenges

«Switzerland’s blockchain industry, with a top-50 valuation of $593 billion and a financing median above the global average, reflects foresight,» says Mathias Ruch, CEO and founder of CV VC. He emphasizes the need for Switzerland to maintain its edge by fostering a collaborative environment that attracts talent, capital, and transformative projects.

This focus is crucial as regulatory advancements in other regions and the «America First» policies in the U.S. might lure companies elsewhere.

Heinz Tännler, president of the Swiss Blockchain Federation and finance director of Zug, underscores Crypto Valley’s robust foundation and proven growth, describing it as a launchpad for Switzerland’s next wave of innovation. However, he stresses the importance of joint efforts by regulators and investors to achieve this vision.

Key areas requiring progress include cross-border custody regulations and stablecoin frameworks, which are priorities for the Swiss Blockchain Federation.

Crypto Valley Zug remains a beacon for blockchain innovation, but ensuring sustained growth will require navigating a complex landscape of opportunities and challenges.
