Maerki Baumann Launches Technology Advisory Board

Maerki Baumann's three-member committee will be led by Marc Bernegger, with Alexander Ilic and Sandra Tobler also joining the board, as the the Swiss private bank announced on Tuesday.

The Advisory Board will focus on strategic, technology-related topics. This initiative reflects the bank’s belief that disruptive technologies and innovative companies, particularly fintechs, will significantly impact the financial and banking sectors.

The Technology Advisory Board will actively support Maerki Baumann’s board of directors and executive management in advancing the bank’s business model, fostering digital transformation, and driving innovation.

The objective is to systematically gain insights into technological developments and their implications for business. These insights will guide the bank’s efforts to modernize its operations and strengthen its competitive edge in private banking.

Members of the Advisory Board

  • Marc Bernegger: With over 20 years of experience as a founder, board member, and CEO of various tech-focused companies, Bernegger has recently been active in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and longevity sectors. Recognized as a «Technology Pioneer» by the World Economic Forum (WEF), he holds a law degree from the University of Zurich and attended Singularity University in Silicon Valley.
  • PD Dr. Alexander Ilic: Co-founder and Managing Director of the «AI Center» at ETH Zurich, Ilic is a renowned scientist, deep-tech entrepreneur, and investor. He co-founded the computer vision startup Dacuda, which an augmented reality leader later acquired. His accolades include the «Swiss Economic Award», and he has been named «Entrepreneur of the Year» by the University of St. Gallen and Ernst & Young. He holds a Ph.D. from ETH Zurich, a habilitation from the University of St. Gallen, and an MSc from TU Munich.
  • Sandra Tobler: A specialist in IT security, Tobler is the co-founder, chairwoman, and CEO of ETH spin-off Futurae, a global leader in authentication, transaction security, and fraud detection. She is also a steering committee member for Switzerland’s National Cybersecurity Strategy. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Geneva and attended Singularity University in Santa Clara.

Reporting and Governance

Bernegger will chair the Advisory Board and report directly to Hans G. Syz-Witmer, Chairman of the Board, and Stephan Zwahlen, CEO of the bank.
