In 2024, the Swiss Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) sent information on approximately 3,7 million financial accounts to partner states as part of the global standard for the automatic exchange of information (AEOI). In return, the Swiss tax authority received information on around 3,4 million financial accounts, according to a statement released on Thursday.

Most recently, Ecuador, Jamaica, New Caledonia, and Sint Maarten were added to the program. The AEOI is now conducted with a total of 108 countries.

No Exchange With Russia

The exchange was conducted in both directions with 81 countries. From 27 countries, Switzerland received information but did not send any. These countries either do not yet meet the international requirements for confidentiality and data security (14) or voluntarily refrain from sending data (13). No data was exchanged with Russia this year either, as the ESTV further noted.

Currently, around 9'000 financial institutions are registered with the ESTV in Switzerland. Banks, trusts, or insurance companies collect the data and forward it to the ESTV.

The exchanged information includes identification, account, and financial information, such as the name, address, country of residence, and tax identification number, as well as details on the reporting financial institution, account balance, and capital income.
