Cocktail of the Month: Global Sunset, Bridging Summer and Fall

Autumn has arrived, bringing misty mornings back to our windows. At this time of year, many of us find ourselves longing for summer’s warmth, although we can't control the weather—despite our impact on it through climate change. Autumn, however, is a beautiful season: leaves transform into vibrant colors, people savor the last rays of sunshine, and we naturally gravitate towards warm indoor spaces and the company of others.

For the bar industry, this season is crucial as it sets the tone for the financial year. Additionally, the citrus harvest is about to begin in Spain, Italy, and France, but this year’s yield is expected to be the smallest since 1988, with forecasts suggesting a reduction of up to 25 percent.

Lurisia Aranciata Rossa

The Coca-Cola Company's portfolio includes the Lurisia brand, and today we’re featuring its blood orange mixer Aranciata Rossa in our cocktail. As noted in a previous «Cocktail of the Month,» mixers like this are perfect for topping off drinks.

The inspiration for our «Global Sunset» cocktail comes from Difford’s Guide. Recently, I met Paloma and Simon Difford in Berlin, and we chatted about our favorite cocktail books. They’re fans of my gin coffee table book, even if it’s in German. My second book, this one on champagne, is set to launch soon.

Dark Spirits Season

If you’re interested, join us for the release at Martel Wines in Zurich with Orell Füssli on 14 November (details here). Returning to the cocktail, I searched for «blood orange» on Difford’s Guide and stumbled upon the «Naked & Famous.» Simple yet unconventional, it inspired the direction for our own cocktail.

We chose a base of premium ingredients: Caribbean rum, wood-aged vermouth from Spain, and an aperitif from Bern. The combination evokes the colors of a sunset, blending flavors from around the world for a relaxed evening vibe.

Neighborhood Test Approved

Creating a great cocktail is one thing, but ensuring it appeals to others is essential. To test the «Global Sunset», I shared it with my neighbors, delivering drinks to their doors and watching their reactions after the first sip—sometimes as early as 2:30 in the afternoon!

Their eyes never lie, offering feedback that’s genuine. At our «Global Sunset» event, the unanimous approval in their expressions confirmed that this cocktail is one you truly have to try. And Our Global Sunset Is Ready.

It's a great way to surprise your guests, or simply your loved ones, with a delicious drink...

Put the following in the shaker:
… ice cubes
… 2 cl Caribbean rum (Abuelo 7 years, Panama rum with Caribbean influence)
… 2 cl Spanish wood-aged vermouth (BCN Barrel Aged Vermouth)
… 2 cl Bernese aperitif (Aperitivo di Berna by Drink Toms)
… 1 cl fresh lemon juice

Shake well and double strain (using a strainer in the shaker and a fine sieve over the glass) into a long drink glass filled with ice cubes. For our Global Sunset, we’ve selected the Riedel highball glass from their Bar series.
Fill up with Lurisia Aranciata Rossa with blood orange to taste.
Garnish with orange zest.

And Our Global Sunset Is Ready

Have fun tasting and enjoy the wonderful autumn days!

#cheers
