Short-Seller Michael Burry Goes under the Radar
The deregistration of the hedge fund is evident from documents on the website of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dated Thursday, as reported by the news agency «Reuters». By deregistering, the fund is no longer required to file reports with the authority or with a federal state.
On the social media platform X, Michael Burry wrote on Wednesday:«On to much better things on November 25.» A statement from Scion Asset Management was initially not available. According to a mandatory filing from March, the hedge fund managed assets of around 155 million dollars at that time.
Burry became known for his bets against the U.S. housing market before its collapse in 2008. His story was chronicled in the book «The Big Short» by Michael Lewis, which also gained widespread attention through the film of the same name.
Most recently, Burry attracted attention with comments criticizing the high valuations of AI heavyweights Palantir and Nvidia. The activities of his fund were often scrutinized for indications of potential market bubbles and excessive valuations.
«Burry’s decision appears less like an exit and more like a retreat from a game he considers fundamentally rigged,» Bruno Schneller, managing director at Erlen Capital Management, is quoted as saying by Reuters. «But don't write him off - just assume he will operate under the radar for a while. He may simply switch to a family office structure and manage his own capital,» Schneller adds.
