Smith Wang joins from Warburg Pincus, where he was responsible for technology investments for more than 14 years, including in the areas of software, data and information services, logistics, and compliance. During his tenure, he led both control buyouts and growth financings, generating substantial returns according to the company.
Second High-Profile Addition
Together with Wolf Scheider, Head of Private Equity and Co-Head of the vertical, Smith Wang will in future originate new deals, oversee investment processes, and drive value-creation programs in existing portfolio companies. The Technology Vertical comprises around 40 investment professionals across Europe, the U.S., and the Asia-Pacific region.
Partners Group has considered technology a strategic investment area for many years: Over the past 15 years, the firm has invested USD 9,6 billion in technology-related companies and realized USD 8,8 billion in distributions.
With Smith Wang, Partners Group is adding its second senior hire in private equity this year, following Tarak Mehta, who joined in September as Co-Head of the Goods & Products Vertical. In total, the private equity business line manages USD 83 billion in assets worldwide.
