The SNB has acquired a plot of land in Bülach, canton of Zurich, where it will construct a new cash logistics center, according to a statement released on Friday. Ensuring a secure cash supply requires modern structural and technical infrastructure, the statement said.

For this reason, the SNB plans to relocate its cash infrastructure from its current Zurich headquarters to Bülach. The new cash logistics center is expected to go into operation in the early 2030s.

The SNB emphasized that the use of cash continues to meet a fundamental need of the Swiss population. According to SNB surveys, 95 percent of Swiss residents want cash to remain available as a means of payment.

The SNB has also recently begun developing its tenth banknote series, as previously reported by finews.com.
