EFG Appoints New CIO for the Americas

As of 1 July 2025, Luis Ferreira has assumed the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for the Americas and Deputy CEO of EFG International’s Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), the financial group announced on Tuesday evening.

In his new and expanded role, Ferreira will continue to be based in Miami and will report directly to Sanjin Mohorovic, Head of the Latin America Region. Functionally, he will also report to Andre Portelli, EFG’s Global Head of Investment & Client Solutions.

Ferreira currently heads the Investment Strategy Group at EFG Capital in Miami. As CIO for the Americas, he will lead and further develop the Investment Solutions teams across all relevant jurisdictions – including Miami, Switzerland, the Caribbean, and Panama. He will also be responsible for further developing and shaping EFG’s investment strategy for Latin America, in close coordination with Mozamil Afzal, EFG’s Global Chief Investment Officer, and Portelli.

Nearly a Decade at EFG

As Deputy CEO of the RIA in Miami, Ferreira will work closely with Eduardo Cruz, CEO of the unit, to define the strategic direction and performance goals of the business – with a focus on advisory services (including third-party solutions), integrated offerings, and the U.S. platform. In addition, he will continue to advance EFG’s competitive offering in the Latin American region and ensure a strong compliance and governance framework.

Ferreira has been with EFG for nearly a decade. In 2019, he was appointed Managing Director and took over the leadership of the Investment Strategy Group at EFG Capital. Prior to that, he spent five years at Delta National Bank and Trust Company in New York and six years at Banco Alfa in São Paulo, primarily working as an equity portfolio manager.
