Decentralized Lugano: When Crypto Meets Capital
Held under the nice Ticino climate last week, Decentralized Lugano brought together investors, founders, and creative minds from across the global blockchain scene.
The gathering was curated by Scytale Digital (with CEO Christoph Kampitsch and CIO Mark Cachia in attendance), a specialist venture firm focused on Web3 infrastructure and decentralization, and offered a compelling mix of thought leadership, high-level networking, and a decent amount of optimism.
Hosted in an unusually relaxed atmosphere for a finance-heavy event, the conference served as both a reality check and a vision board for where the crypto sector may be heading, far beyond token speculation and into the realms of sports, gaming, energy, governance, and infrastructure.

One of the key institutional backers of the conference was the Swiss arm of Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL). With Hans-Peter Borgh, CEO of BIL Suisse, and Sascha Wullschleger, Head of Wealth Management in Lugano, in attendance, the bank signaled its commitment to a new generation of entrepreneurial crypto clients.
Wullschleger, in particular, played a visible role as moderator and host, helping anchor the event as a must-attend for industry insiders. In a recent interview with finews.com, he revealed what the bank gains from rubbing shoulders with crypto’s crème de la crème.

Their presence confirmed what many attendees have already sensed: Crypto and traditional finance are slowly learning to speak the same language – and places like Lugano, with its open-minded municipal strategy, offer a convenient forum for that dialogue.
With Paolo Bortolin, the Deputy CFO of the City of Lugano and member of its Blockchain & Crypto Task Force, participating, the city showcased its ambition to lead in public-sector blockchain innovation.
From City Bonds to Prediction Markets
Bortolin was instrumental in the issuance of Switzerland’s first fully digital native bond on SIX Digital Exchange two years ago (as reported by finews.com), confirming Lugano’s hands-on approach in embracing tokenized finance.
Content-wise, the program was a panopticum of cutting-edge developments in crypto. From the gamification economy championed by Mythical Games and Spectarium, to Galactic Media’s vision for prediction markets and FANtium’s experiments in sports engagement with FC Barcelona, the panels explored uncharted territory.
Bitcoin Suisse: Back to Basics

A keynote by Andrej Majcen, CEO of Bitcoin Suisse, served as a thoughtful reminder of the original ethos behind Bitcoin, born out of frustration with inflation, inefficiency, and agency conflicts in traditional finance. Majcen warned against two dangerous trends: the forced institutionalization of crypto through conventional financial layers, and what he called the «get-rich-quick crowd.»
«The issuance of new tokens went to complete absurdity,» Majcen said, pointing to the existence of more than 35 million different cryptocurrencies.
VCs: Sober and Selective
While the energy at the event was constructive, venture capitalists brought a measured tone. It was noted that funding levels for early-stage crypto projects are now only a fraction of what they were three to five years ago.
In many ways, Decentralized Lugano stood out not just for its speakers or topics, but for its cultural tone. The informal open-air networking and the wide thematic span gave the event the feel of a serious gathering that refuses to take itself too seriously.
