BIT Capital Edges Into Switzerland

BIT Capital is determined to be anything but a conventional wealth manager—or a replica of any successful asset manager: «We move to where success will be tomorrow,» the financial services firm boldly proclaims on its website

Focus on Investments in Technology Companies

Founded by Jan Beckers, the company specializes in investments in technology firms, particularly those addressing major global challenges and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Lessons Learned From the Tech Crash

«We don’t simply hire asset managers from other banks; we prioritize recruiting individuals from the tech sector because specialists offer a much broader perspective,» CEO and Co-CIO Marcel Oldenkott explained during a meeting with finews.ch.

Founded in Berlin in 2017, BIT Capital quickly achieved success with its investment funds but suffered significant losses—up to 50%—during the 2022 tech crash: «We were too aggressive,» Oldenkott admitted in hindsight.

Assets Under Management Now Total € 1.7 Billion

Today, BIT Capital employs 40 staff members at its Berlin headquarters and manages assets totaling nearly €1.7 billion. This success is credited to its refined investment process and enhanced risk management practices.

Client Base in Zurich More International Than in Germany

Now, the firm is preparing to write its next chapter in Switzerland: «Zurich is a very interesting location. The clientele here is more international than in Germany, for example,» Oldenkott remarked.

With regulatory matters resolved and initial inquiries already coming in, BIT Capital is ready to commence operations. However, the German tech investor will not immediately establish its own office in Zurich: «We have a great deal of respect for the Swiss market. We’re aware that nobody has been waiting for us, so we want to approach this step by step,» Oldenkott explained.

No Rush in the Search for Office Space

In other words, if business takes off in Zurich, the firm will begin searching for suitable office space. For now, BIT Capital is in no rush, «We’re taking a very relaxed approach,» Oldenkott added. Perhaps not a bad strategy at all.
