Ranking of the Rich: How the Banking Families and Managers Fared

The rich list published by the business magazine «Bilanz» puts the Safra family in a stable fourth place among the 300 richest Swiss with unchanged assets of 22.5 billion Swiss francs. Bank J. Safra Sarasin, based in Basel, serves as the Swiss branch of the global corporate conglomerate.

This year, several members of the Indian Hinduja family of entrepreneurs made headlines as they stood trial in Geneva for allegedly exploiting their domestic workers. The assets of banker Prakash Hinduja and his extended family are now estimated at 10.5 billion francs, an increase of 1 billion from the previous year.

According to the list, the Princely Family led by Hans-Adam von und zu Liechtenstein, along with their private bank LGT, still holds assets totaling 10.5 billion francs.

Temenos' Crash Hit Ebner

As a major shareholder in the banking software company Temenos, Martin Ebner is also listed unter «Banker» (rank 55). His assets are said to have grown from 3.3 billion francs to 3.8 billion francs. The fall in Temenos' share price since February has cost Ebner around 250 million francs, writes the magazine. The Holcim investment is likely to have given him more pleasure.

The assets of the Latsis family are also estimated at 3.8 billion francs, which is an increase of 0.5 billion francs. The 45 percent stake in the private banking group EFG International is valued higher here.

The Top Third Ends at 2.3 Billion

The UBP founding family de Piciotto is valued at 2.3 billion francs and the Vontobel and the de la Cour families or Ariane de Rothschild family at 1.8 billion each. The assets of the family around Eric Syz with the bank of the same name are estimated at 425 million francs.

While investor Collardi's good performance at EFG Bank was a factor, the UBS CEO is likely to have benefited not only from his record salary of 14.4 million francs as a Credit Suisse integrator, but also from the higher share price of «his» big bank.
