Claude Maurer, Chief Economist Switzerland of the former Credit Suisse, is taking a new career direction.

«After nearly two decades, my time at Credit Suisse will end in November. It was an exciting and instructive period, marked by wonderful encounters,» wrote the former Olympic sailor in a «Linkedin» post, announcing his departure from UBS, which now owns Credit Suisse.

He describes the transition to UBS as «a unique experience». He expresses gratitude to a number of colleagues he has worked with throughout his career, including former CS economist Sara Carnazzi Weber and UBS economist Daniel Kalt, the latter having played a key role in facilitating a smooth transition for CS colleagues.

Olympian for Switzerland

Maurer studied economics at the University of Zurich. Before completing his degree, he was a professional sailor. In 2000, he represented Switzerland at the Sydney Olympic Games in the 49er skiff class as a crew member, alongside skipper Tom Rüegge.

His career as an economist began at the economic research institute BAK Basel Economics, before he joined Credit Suisse in 2006. He took on his current position in mid-2021, succeeding Oliver Adler.

With the integration of Credit Suisse into UBS, many changes were also made in the equity and macro research departments of the merged major bank.

Maurer makes no comments regarding his future plans. «As a former professional sailor, I know that you can’t change the wind, but you can adjust the sails,» Maurer shared. «My journey continues next month, and I'm already looking forward to it!»
