TEFAF New York: Super Wealthy Have Very Deep Pockets

The fair, located in Manhattan's historic Park Avenue Armory, saw 90 international galleries participate, including some of the biggest players in the art scene. Although its success was mainly due to the presence of established artists, some first-time exhibitors did extremely well.

Korean Art in Focus

The Page Gallery exhibited several works by South Korean painter Choi Myoung Young, like «Conditional Planes, 21-105, 2021», which sold for $136,000 to the Mugrabi Familie. «Conditional Planes 22-601, 2022» went for the same price to US financier and Swiss citizen by choice – Asher Edelman.

High Demand from Private Collectors

The Almine Rech Galerie landed a coup at the outset of the fair by selling a small Picasso painting for about $2 million and some of his paper illustrations for around $500,000. The high visibility of collectors and museum curators led to high demand and robust sales throughout the entire event.

Sold in Minutes

Some of the high-profile sales at TEFAF include an early work by Park Seo-bo for $1.5 million, which had been on display at the Tina Kim Gallery. In addition, A sculpture by Claire Tabouret (Galerie Almine Rech) and paintings by Kenny Scharf and Brian Calvin brought in almost $500,000.

Bank of America Partnership

A significant factor in the fair's success this year was the Bank of America's role (BofA). «We are delighted to continue our long-term partnership with TEFAF. We recognize the importance of art as a driver of economic activity and the passion to collect and support art», said Drew Watson, the head of BofA art services.

The event's programming, including the «TEFAF Talks» and «Meet the Experts» roundtables, was made possible with the BofA's partnership, something that underlined its commitment to artistic education and support. They provided valuable insight and promoted exchanges between artists, collectors, and enthusiasts.

Leonardo DiCaprio on Hand

There were numerous VIPs among the visitors at TEFAF New York, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Marina Kellen French, something that helped make the fair a significant social event in the art world.
